A jewellery shop in Kochi came to us with a puzzle.
Forty thousand visitors a month. Good rankings. Sensible ad spend. But only 0.6% of visitors were buying, when similar stores were closer to 1.8%.
Nothing looked wrong. Nice design. Good photos. Plenty of products.
The problem wasn’t anything you could see. It was the 2.8 seconds of blank screen before the page appeared. And the half-second of nothing after a customer tapped “Add to cart.”
That is what Core Web Vitals measure: how a website feels to use. And most business owners in Kerala have never looked at theirs.
They are three scores from Google that measure the experience of using your website. Not how it looks. How it behaves.
Here they are in plain language:
| Score | The question it answers | Good | Poor |
|---|---|---|---|
| LCP | How long before I can see anything useful? | Under 2.5 seconds | Over 4 seconds |
| INP | When I tap something, how long before something happens? | Under 200 milliseconds | Over 500 milliseconds |
| CLS | Does the page jump around while it loads? | Barely | Noticeably |
One important detail: Google scores you based on your real visitors, not on your own laptop.
So if your website is quick for three out of four people and painful for the fourth, you fail. The fourth person counts.
Until 2024, Google used a score called FID. It only checked one thing: did the page notice your tap?
INP replaced it, and it asks a harder question: did the page actually do something you can see?
That’s a much tougher test, and plenty of websites that were fine in 2023 are failing now without anyone noticing.
INP is also the score that punishes your most common visitor. Most people in Kerala browse on a mid-range Android phone using mobile data. Not on a new laptop on office wifi.
A page that reacts instantly on your computer can take half a second on a ₹15,000 phone. If you only test on your own machine, you will never see the problem your customers live with every day.
Try this calculation with your own numbers:
Say you get 30,000 visits a month. 1.2% of them buy. Your average order is ₹6,500.
That’s about ₹23 lakh a year.
Now suppose fixing your speed lifts that 1.2% to 1.4%. Not a miracle. Just holding on to people who were leaving because they got bored waiting.
That’s roughly ₹3 lakh extra a year. Every year. From a one-time fix that usually costs less than a single quarter of ad budget.
There’s a second cost too, and it’s worse.
If you run Google Ads, you pay the same price for a click whether that person buys or gives up at second three. A slow page doesn’t reduce your ad bill. It just wastes more of it.
In our audits, the same culprits come up again and again:
For a normal business website, “good enough” is good enough.
For an online store, it isn’t. Three pages carry almost all your risk: your category pages, your product pages and your checkout.
If you’re planning ecommerce website development in Kerala, or rebuilding a store you already have, put speed targets into the plan before design starts. Adding speed to a finished website costs roughly three times what building it properly costs in the first place.
Give this list to your developer:
Most of this is a two to four week job. None of it needs a new website.
Yes, but only a little — they break the tie between two pages that are otherwise equal. Any SEO company in Kochi selling speed as a magic ranking fix is overselling it; the real return is more sales from the visitors you already have.
Much harder. FID only checked whether the page noticed your tap. INP measures how long until you actually see a result, which is why any web application development company in Kochi should be planning for it before they build, not testing after.
They measure different things. PageSpeed runs a test on a perfect connection. Search Console reports your real visitors over the last 28 days. This catches out most ecommerce website development in Kerala projects, where a store passes every test before launch and then fails once real customers arrive.
Yes. Google judges your landing page as part of Quality Score, so slow pages cost you more per click and convert fewer of them. Worth raising with your digital marketing company in Kerala before you spend more.
Hosting, image and font fixes usually show up in the report within two to four weeks, because it works on a rolling 28-day window. Ask any website development company in Kochi for a step-by-step plan — quick wins first rather than one lump-sum “speed package”.
Usually not. Hosting, images, add-ons and fonts cause most failures, and none of those need a rebuild. Ask your web designing company in Kochi to list every add-on on your site and review your hosting before you agree to start over.
