Google ads are on-going. The amount of money you have remaining is the same. Despite all your clicks, but you are losing them unconsciously and most of the Kochi business don't know the reason.

Google's AI Overviews are the answer, they're included right at the top of the search page. This post is for anybody who hasn't made any changes to their digital approach yet, and wants to before the next campaign.

An overview of Google AI Overview.

AI Overview is an AI-backed answer block that appears in search results on top of all the results, including your paid ads. It's been released globally by Google in 2024 and scaled up significantly in 2025. By 2026, it will appear in around 30–40% of all information queries.

It takes an immediate toll on your paid ads: When they're served, they appear below this AI block that was used to be the first thing consumers saw when they landed on the page. The user often walks away without clicking anything after reading the response, effectively using the "lede." The term "zero click problem" refers to this issue, which is even more potent than ever now.

The Search Page has changed!

An old architecture was predictable. Advertisements appear at the top and the organic results appear below the advertisements. The following map is for the year 2026:

This is the top of the page, which links to the AI Overview box.Paid advertisements can show up beneath the AI box.Paid advertisements may appear beneath the AI box.pushed down in the results as well, although "Organic" is still the label.Maps, People Also Ask, and highlighted snippets all compete to be near the top of the page.

The power ratings are held or even improving but the number of conversions are declining—this is probably the reason. Your ad could still be visible but is at the bottom of the page and fewer people can see it.

These are the statistics displayed by the Click Data.

We conducted one study in 2025 that examined the impact of AI Overviews on search behaviour. In 2025, we conducted a study examining the impact of AI Overviews on search behaviour. For enquiries with an AI Overview, conversion rates dropped by 15–25% compared to queries without the Overview.  The ads were the number one losers as consumers were receiving their answers before even scrolling down.

There is no change in cost per click. However, the yen quietly becomes smaller. But the number you need to monitor at the moment is your impression to conversion rate within Google Search Console.

When impressions are steady and CTR is declining, it's a sure sign of traffic getting lost on the diabolical highway known as AI Overviews. When impressions are consistently at a similar level, but CTR is on a downward trend, we can safely say that AI Overviews are stealing you some traffic!

Who to look out for for Top Spot?

In the end, without paying a single rupee on advertisements, the firms featured on the AI Overview are strategically positioned at the top of every sponsored advertisement on a page.

Content quality, page speed, schema markup, mobile performance, and other factors are taken into consideration while returning AI Overview sources.  by Google.
